Giovanni Battista Tiepolo (1696 -1770) Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, Italian painter and engraver, born in Venice in 1693, died at Madrid in 1770. He was gifted with a great easiness of drawing, and a remarkable sense of color. He was probably the last survivor of the Grand Italian school of painting. He is especially know for his frescoes, painted in a large number of Italian villas, palazzos, and churches. He decorated the Accademia del Venezia, the Royal Palace of Madrid, and the palace of Wurzburg. His frescoes are known for their dramatic motion and a sense of perspective that dazzles the onlooker, especially in his painted ceilings.
